NLBMDA Statement on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement
The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) released the following statement on the signing of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the G20 Summit. USMCA is a trilateral trade deal with Mexico and Canada that will replace the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) if the legislatures of the three countries ratify it.
USMCA maintains NAFTA's dispute resolution mechanism allowing for a binational arbitration process regarding countervailing duties (CVD) and anti-dumping duties (AD). These panels have been used in the past as part of the softwood lumber dispute between the U.S. and Canada. In addition, aluminum tariffs of 10 percent and steel tariffs of 25 percent remain in effect for imports from Canada and Mexico despite the new agreement.
All three countries must still ratify the trade agreement for it to take effect, which means both the House of Representatives and Senate will have to approve USMCA next year.
"NLBMDA is pleased that the U.S., Mexico, and Canada have reached an agreement and are moving forward to update NAFTA," said NLBMDA President and CEO Jonathan Paine. "The U.S. should build on this positive momentum by resolving the softwood lumber dispute with Canada and ending the steel and aluminum tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada."

2018 ProSales Excellence Award Winner, Grand, Education:
TW Perry
For the TW Perry team, education as a service adds to the value stream.
The flow of new techniques and products in construction is constant. What may have been a best practice 20 years ago today could be seen as unsafe and inefficient.
The team at TW Perry sees a critical need to keep customers connected with all the latest industry insights and developments, so they've implemented a robust, year-round education program that features a wide breadth of engagement activities.
"When I started at TW Perry 13 years ago, we had a few training days and had a lot of customer appreciation days," says Jen Purdy, marketing manager. "I said, 'Customers appreciate the training.' I really tried to help expand the educational program that we offered and really focus on it."

OSHA Releases List of Winter Weather Hazards and
How to Plan for Them
Winter is coming. That means the hazards of outdoor work in cold conditions and weather-related work dangers are coming with it. To create awareness for common hazards and how to plan for them, OSHA released a tip sheet on its Winter Weather resource site.
OSHA lists 10 common winter hazards and provides tips on how employers can prepare for them, through employee training and heightened awareness. Rooftop snow removal, working at heights, preventing slips on snow and ice, and working near damaged power lines are among the 10 hazards OSHA covers on its tip sheet.
Here are OSHA's tips for how to prepare and handle these winter hazards.

Guide for Drivers on ELD Data Transfer Now Available
To assist the motor carrier industry with adopting ELDs (from the ABORDS), FMCSA has developed a new resource for drivers. Designed to be printed and stored under the visor of a CMV, this guide gives the driver a high-level overview of the various data transfer processes and includes some tips on troubleshooting common questions that could arise during data transfer.
This guide is not meant to replace driver training on using ELDs. All motor carriers must ensure that drivers and administrative staff are educated on how to access the various functions in the ELDs with which their vehicles are equipped.
