Ohio BWC Free Informational Webinars

Each month, the Bureau of Workers Compensation (BWC) hosts two webinars to help educate and keep the employer community informed on several items. The same topics are covered twice a month; webinars are held on the second Tuesday and fourth Thursday. Any Ohio employer may attend and they are FREE!

IRS Proposes Changes to Income Tax Withholding from Wages

Recently, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) published a notice of proposed rulemaking which provides guidance to employers regarding the amount of federal income tax to withhold from employees' wages, implementing recent changes in the Internal Revenue Code made by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), and reflecting the redesigned 2020 Form W-4 and related IRS publications. The proposed rule impacts employers who pay wages subject to federal income tax withholding and employees who receive wages subject to federal income tax withholding. The proposed rulemaking can be found here . The comment period closes on April 13.

The IRS states that the rule will not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities. They do acknowledge that the proposed rule will likely affect a number of small entities but have determined that the economic impact will not be significant since employees are not required to submit a new Form W-4 solely because of the form’s redesign. In addition, the IRS states that the guidance laid out in the proposed rule supports the withholding procedures used to prepare Forms W-4 for 2019 and earlier years.
